Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 6 September  2024

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,612) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (27,328) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (20,844) are currently in detention, (9,369) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by the AAPP, from January 1 to August 31, 2024, a total of (91) people; (28) women and (63) men, were killed by the junta in Shan State, including (15) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the (91) fatalities, (54) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest number of deaths.

On August 26, an aerial bombing conducted by junta forces in Nar Ma Hkaw Village, Hsipaw Township, Shan State, injured 10-year-old Sai Hsai Mon with shrapnel in the stomach. He was taken to Mongkaing Hospital for medical treatment and succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to Taunggyi Hospital.
