Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,592) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

Since the coup, a total of (27,294) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (20,827) are currently in detention, (9,371) of whom are serving sentences.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to monitoring conducted by AAPP’s Documentation and Research Department, junta forces, who have consistently committed war crimes, carried out multiple airstrikes targeting monasteries, schools, healthcare infrastructures, and civilian buildings, all deemed non-military targets. On August 27, 2024, junta forces conducted aerial bombings in Kyaukme and Hsipaw Towns, Shan State, without any clashes occurring, resulting in the destruction of school and civilian buildings and the injury and death of local civilians.

On the same day, junta forces carried out an aerial bombing on a school in Ngan Myar Village, Ngazun Township, Mandalay Region, destroying the school building and several nearby houses, and killing two locals. On August 28, 2024, a junta airstrike in Let Wea Myin Ni Village, Natogyi Township, Mandalay Region, destroyed monastery buildings in the village and seriously injured two locals.
