Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,534) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (2,300) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.

Since the coup, a total of (27,226) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (20,771) are currently in detention, (9,341) of whom are serving sentences. 

There are a total of (123) post-coup death row prisoners as of 21 August 2024. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (44) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (167) people who have been sentenced to death. (6,455) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from August 1 to 21, 2024, (28) women and (29) men; (57) people in total, whose identities have been verified, have been killed by the junta across the country. (15) of them were killed by the junta’s airstrikes with (3) children under the age of 18. 

In addition, during the stated period, (12) women and (24) men; (36) people in total across the country, have been arrested in relation to Spring Revolution, by the junta. Mandalay Region records the highest number of arrests: (13) people.

AAPP will continue to provide updates on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
