Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,414) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (2,000) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.

Since the coup, a total of (27,089) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (20,780) are currently in detention, (9,352) of whom are serving sentences. 

There are a total of (124) post-coup death row prisoners as of 22 July 2024. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (44) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (168) people who have been sentenced to death. (6,309) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to monitoring by AAPP’s Documentation and Research Department, the junta forces, who have been blatantly committing war crimes, carried out airstrikes across the country in the past week. On July 16, they carried out an airstrike in Singu Town, Mandalay Region, burning down around 100 houses and injuring over 20 civilians. Moreover, on July 18, the junta forces conducted airstrikes  into Myoma Market in Hseni Town, Shan State, destroying shops and houses, killing at least 10 civilians and injuring over 20 civilians.

AAPP will continue to provide updates on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
