Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,227) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (1,800) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.
Since the coup, a total of (26,817) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (20,558) are currently in detention, (9,147) of whom are serving sentences.
There are a total of (124) post-coup death row prisoners as of 4 June 2024. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (167) people who have been sentenced to death. (6,259) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, during the period spanning from January to May, 2024, (12) women and (16) men; (28) people in total from the education sector were killed by the junta across the country. The identities of those who have been verified. Among (28) deceased, Rakhine State records the highest number of deaths with (10) people and the number of people killed by the junta’s airstrikes was the highest with (19).
In addition, within a span of 5 months, (8) women and (1) men; (9) people in total from the education sector, were arrested in relation to the Spring Revolution by the junta across the country, with Tanintharyi Region records the highest number of arrests with (5) people.
Likewise, during the stated period, (7) women and (2) men; (9) people in total were given prison sentences under specious charges by courts subservient to the junta, and are still detained in prisons across the country. They were sentenced under sections of the Penal Code and Counter-Terrorism Law. Among (9) sentences, there are (4) people who were sentenced to 10 years or over in prison.
