Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (4,973) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (1,750) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.
Since the coup, a total of (26,631) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (20,415) are currently in detention, (8,973) of whom are serving sentences.
There are a total of (123) post-coup death row prisoners as of 7 May 2024. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (166) people who have been sentenced to death. (6,216) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, from May 1 to 7, 2024, (2) women and (7) men; (9) people in total were killed by the junta across the country. The identities of whom have been verified. Among the (9) deceased, Rakhine State recorded the highest number of fatalities with (4) victims, who were killed by the junta’s airstrikes.
On May 6, at approximately 8:30 a.m., junta forces carried out isolated aerial bombings into Ah Lel Kyun Village in Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State, without any other military operations being carried out. A bomb shell exploded on a house, instantaneously killing Ni Tun Oo and his son Ko Han inside the house due to bomb shrapnel. Another round of aerial bombing in that village at around 9:30 a.m. on that day resulted in an explosion at a monastery, killing Zagara and Ma Dway due to bomb shrapnel.
