Date – 29 April 2024
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (4,957) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (1,700) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.
Since the coup, a total of (26,578) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (20,365) are currently in detention, (8,946) of whom are serving sentences.
There are a total of (123) post-coup death row prisoners as of 29 April 2024. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (166) people who have been sentenced to death. (6,213) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the monitoring of AAPP’s Documentation and Research Department, the junta is beginning to collect lists of names to draft people for the second batch of military conscription training in some regions and states. Additionally, family members of the drafted individuals who have been dodging the draft are being arrested as hostages. Administration team members, under the command of the junta, in Bago, Ayeyarwady, and Mandalay Regions have been using the conscription law as a pretext to extort money. In Magway Region, the junta forces have been forcibly abducting youths and sending them off for conscription, leading to young people fleeing for safety.
Due to the clashes between the Arakan Army (AA) and the junta forces in Rakhine State, the number of civilians who have fled their hometowns has been increasing. The junta has imposed land and naval blockades in Thandwe Township, resulting in a shortage of food and basic medicines, causing difficulties for the locals.
The junta, which has been continuously committing war crimes by targeting non-military civilian targets, carried out an aerial bombing on Vawmm’tu Hospital in Mindat Town, Chin State, on the night of April 25. This resulted in the entire hospital burning down and the deaths and injuries of the locals who were being treated in the hospital.
AAPP will continue to provide updates on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
