There are a total of (123) post-coup death row prisoners as of 18 March 2024. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (166) people who have been sentenced to death. (6,132) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to monitoring by the Documentation and Research Department of AAPP, during the junta forces’ clashes with PDFs and EROs across the country, the junta forces launched offensives, opened fire with various weaponry, and set fire to houses. This led to an increase in the number of internally displaced people who need humanitarian aid.
Due to aerial attacks from the junta forces, who have blatantly been committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, underage children and civilians suffered casualties and death in civilian areas, including Mindat Township in Chin State, Kale and Kyunhla Townships in Sagaing Region, Kyaukpyu and Minbya Townships, and Mrauk-U Town in Rakhine State, as well as Kyainseikgyi Township in Kayin State. Moreover, religious buildings and houses in Hsihseng and Hopong Townships in Shan State, and Wetlet Town in Sagaing Region, were destroyed, and locals suffered injuries.
Last week, in Tanintharyi Region, Bago Region, Magway Region, Mon State, Ayeyarwady Region, Shan State, and Rakhine State, including Yangon and Mandalay Towns and Nay Pyi Taw, military conscription recruitment teams, established by the junta, and administration teams under the command of the junta, were collecting names to be drafted. They began summoning a lot of draftees in some states and regions, while also placing pressure and threatening them, saying that the draftees would be substituted with their family members, should they try to avoid drafting. This led to rising concerns among civilians.
AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
