There are a total of (123) post-coup death row prisoners as of 11 March 2024. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (166) people who have been sentenced to death. (6,126) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to monitoring by the Documentation and Research Department of AAPP, junta forces used excessive force to carry out attacks on civilians continuously, either without any clashes occurring or during clashes across the country. As a result, there have been deaths and casualties among the civilians, and they had to flee for safety.

Last week, on March 7, a student and a teacher from Kyan Khin Village in Kyaukhtu Town, Saw Township, Magway Region, were killed by artillery shrapnel fired by the junta. On March 8, the junta carried out an airstrike, without any clashes with resistance groups. This occurred in Mindat Township, Chin State, and in Kyauk Ka Hsar Village, Hopong Township, Shan State, injuring two civilians, including an 8-year-old girl, and killing another civilian. On March 10, due to the junta forces carrying out aerial bombing and opening fire with heavy weaponry at a school in Nan Chaung Village, Kale Township, Sagaing Region, local villagers had to flee for safety. Because of these incidents, among others incidents that occurred last  week, civilians across the country have been suffering in various ways due to the junta’s actions.

Moreover, the junta has been continuously apprehending civilians returning home to Rakhine State at Yangon Airport, with the number of detained youths numbering in the hundreds within these past days. Among the captives, only some of the elderly have been released, while youths and adults, including women, were arrested and detained in Shwepyithar Interrogation, according to their family members. On March 8, at Yangon Airport, junta forces and the police force under their command apprehended at least twenty local youths from Rathedaung Township, Rakhine State, who were going to Sittwe Airport.

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
