Activities of the Assistance Department
Introduction
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) has provided trainings and awareness sessions across Myanmar on human rights, documentation of human rights violations, transitional justice, and psychosocial support.
Following the attempted military coup by the terrorist military junta, AAPP continued these trainings through online platforms. Through this approach, AAPP was able to reach student union members, participants in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), ethnic organizations, human rights activists, political party members, and civil society organizations.
Through the networks established with training participants, AAPP has also been able to receive and share information on human rights violations occurring across the country with its Documentation and Research Department. This close collaboration supports AAPP’s broader documentation, research, and accountability efforts.
Objective
The objective of the training programs is to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations, ethnic youth, women, LGBT+ communities, students, political party members, and human rights activists.
The training aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to better understand human rights violation documentation, transitional justice processes, and psychosocial support. By doing so, the programs contribute to future efforts to promote accountability, justice, and redress for human rights violations in Myanmar.
