Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,150) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,369) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,430) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,915) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to June 30, 2026, (58) people in total; (24) women and (34) men, were killed by the junta in Magway Region, including (12) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, (32) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest number of deaths. During the stated period in that region, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (101) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

On June 25, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing with jet fighter aircraft on Tha Hmone Kone Gyi Village, Natmauk Township, Magway Region. The resulting bomb shrapnel killed five local villagers: Than Than Maw and her two sons, Aung Bhone Khant and Nyi Bhone Khant, as well as Chit Oo and Yii. Aung Bhone Khant and Nyi Bhone Khant were under the age of 18.
