Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,091) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
A total of (31,131) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,298) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,877) remain to be verified.
These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, from January 1 to June 9, 2026, (89) children in total under the age of 18; (40) girls and (49) boys, were killed by the junta across the country, including a two-month-old boy. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, Bago Region records the highest number of deaths, totaling (25), followed by (18) people in Chin State. Moreover, among the (89) deceased, (60) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death, followed by (17) people who were killed after being detained by the junta.
On May 21, junta forces from the No. (8) Operations Control Command, based in Dawei Township, conducted an aerial bombing using gyrocopters on villages in Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region. A bomb exploded in Oke Tu Village, with the bomb shrapnel instantly killing three civilians, Myo Thu, the underaged girls Cho Zin, and Mee Nge Yar.
