⁨Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,941) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (30,677) people have been arrested by the junta in connection with opposition to the arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,430) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,893) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

The junta has been deliberately targeting civilians, their homes, and religious buildings, which are not military targets, on a daily basis. On March 16, junta forces launched an offensive in Nattalin Township, Bago Region, and burned down Hpa Lan Pin Village, which had about 300 houses, destroying nearly 150 houses. Additionally, they killed three locals and set fire to the nearby village of Shar Say Pho, burning down more than 10 houses.

Moreover, on March 20, an aerial bombing was carried out on the “Maha Lay Htat” Monastery, which was sheltering displaced people in Katha Township, Sagaing Region, killing many civilians, including monks and children. Similarly, on March 21, an airstrike hit a school and monastery in Su Lay Kone Village, Kani Township, Sagaing Region, damaging buildings and killing a monk, according to ground reports.
