⁨Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,966) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (30,837) people have been arrested by the junta in connection with opposition to the arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,328) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,889) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to March 31, 2026, the junta killed (53) people in total in Rakhine State; (29) women and (24) men. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among these deaths, (45) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes marking the highest cause of death. The remaining (8) were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes. During the stated period in that region, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (22) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

On January 24, in Mu Ywin village, Kyaukpyu Township, Rakhine State, a school sheltering displaced people was bombed by an airstrike from junta forces. After the bomb exploded inside the school compound. Several people were injured in the attack, and two were killed by bomb shrapnel: Maet Daung and an elderly woman, Phyu Nu Ma, both from Thaing Chaung village. Among the injured, a nine-month-old baby from Sai Chong village, Aye Min Khaing, died while receiving medical treatment on the morning of January 26.
