Statement on the Update of Detained Political Prisoners
1April 2026
According to data collected by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), preliminary information indicates that there are approximately (22,275) individuals currently listed as still being detained among those arrested on political reasons by the military junta. AAPP is continuing to verify whether these individuals remain held in official detention facilities such as interrogation centers, police stations, and prisons.
At present, it has been confirmed that approximately (14,300) individuals from this list are still in detention. However, due to ongoing cross-checking of personal information, as well as cases involving individuals charged or sentenced under Section 505 A of the Penal Code, Counter-Terrorism Law Section 52 (a), and various Arms Acts, a total of (7,883) political prisoners are currently categorized as a “need to be verified list” regarding their detention status.
AAPP will continue to systematically verify this “need to be verified list.” Individuals confirmed to be still in detention will be updated to the verified detention list, while those confirmed to have been released will be recorded in the release list. AAPP will accordingly update its database based on the latest verified status of each individual.
