Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,045) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (30,991) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,226) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,874) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from May 1 to 15, 2026, (28) people in total; (9) women and (19) men, were killed by the junta across the country, including (9) children under the age of 18, including a five-month-old boy. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among these deaths, Sagaing Region recorded the highest number of fatalities, totaling (9), followed by (8) people in Chin State. Meanwhile, (20) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes marking the highest cause of death. During the stated period, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (29) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

On May 12, at approximately 10:00 p.m., junta forces conducted an aerial bombing in Mae Baw Khee Village, Hpa-An Township, Kayin State. A bomb exploded in the village and the bomb shrapnel killed Naw Bar Bu, a 19-year-old internally displaced person (IDP) from Baw Kyoet Lel Village, Hpapun Township.
