Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup
Date – 12 June 2026
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,093) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
A total of (31,162) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,306) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,877) remain to be verified.
These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to June 12, 2026, the junta arrested (35) people in relation to the Spring Revolution across the country: (10) women and (25) men. Among them, (9) people were arrested in Yangon Region, recording the highest number of arrests, followed by (6) people each in Bago Region and Rakhine State.
On June 6, Ekari Kyaw (aka) Nang Ekari Kyaw, from Taunggyi Township, Shan State, was arrested by junta forces for writing comments on social media mocking the junta leader. The lawsuit was filed against her under Section 505 A of the Penal Code.
