Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,063) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
A total of (31,066) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,265) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,880) remain to be verified.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from May 1 to 29, 2026, (46) people in total; (17) women and (29) men, were killed by the junta across the country, including (11) children under the age of 18. The youngest recorded death was a five-month-old boy. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among these deaths, Bago Region recorded the highest number of fatalities, totaling (10), followed by (9) people in Sagaing Region. Meanwhile, (30) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death, (8) people who were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes. During the stated period, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (63) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.
On the afternoon of May 26, junta forces from Taung Maw Oo Naval Base in Kyaukpyu Township, Rakhine State, launched a drone attack and fired heavy weaponry in Kan Pyin Su Ward, Sa Ne Town. A shell exploded in the ward, injuring Maung Shwe Sein from shrapnel. He died from his injuries while being transported for medical treatment.
During the stated period, the junta arrested (7) people in total; (1) women and (6) men, in relation to the Spring Revolution across the country. Among them, (5) people were arrested in Rakhine State, (2) people in Nay Pyi Taw.
