Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 18 July 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,974) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,405) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,184) are currently in detention, (10,884) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to July 18, 2025, the junta killed (143) people in total in Magway Region; (47) women and (96) men, including (23) children under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among the (143) deaths, (75) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest cause of death. (20) people were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes.

On July 15, Infantry Battalion No. (258) (IB-258) of the junta forces, stationed in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, fired heavy weaponry. The explosion struck Kan Beit Village in Yesagyo Township, killing Shin Linn Ko and Nway Oo May—a teacher who had joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM)—and injuring Thazin Wai, all due to bomb shrapnel. Due to the severity of her injuries, Thazin Wai succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical treatment on July 16.
