Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 20 September  2024

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,675) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (27,416) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (20,926) are currently in detention, (9,440) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from September 1 to 20, 2024, (36) men were killed by the junta across the country, including (4) children under the age of 18 and (4) people over the age of 60. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the (36) deaths, Rakhine Region recorded the highest number of fatalities with (12) men, and the highest cause of death came from the junta’s airstrikes, which killed (20) men.

On the night of September 7, junta forces carried out an aerial bombing in Dwar Yar Wa Ti Myo Thit Ward, Thandwe Township, Rakhine State. The explosion in No. (8) Ward killed Thein Zan, a teacher from No. (2) High School, due to bomb shrapnel.
