⁩ ⁨Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,211) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,596) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,590) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,930) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to July 28, 2026, a total of (66) people; (40) women and (26) men, were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes across the country, including (7) children under the age of 18. The youngest recorded death was a three-year-old girl. These are the numbers that have been verified. During the stated period, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (57) civilians, as a result of the junta’s artillery attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

Starting from the end of June, junta forces have been launching an offensive into Myaing Township, Magway Region, and they have been setting fire to, destroying, and pillaging the villages along their path, and committing acts of capturing, torturing and killing of the locals. On July 22, the same military column of junta forces indiscriminately opened fire with heavy weaponry while they were in Thin Ma Village. The explosion struck Wet Hpoe Village, instantly killing Aung Kyi Wai, Nyo, and Than Htay from shrapnel.

The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma), otherwise known as AAPP, is a human rights organization based in Mae Sot, Thailand and Rangoon, Burma. AAPP advocates for the release of all remaining political prisoners in Burma and for the improvement of their quality of life during and after incarceration. AAPP has developed rehabilitation and assistance programs for those political activists who have been released while continuing to document the ongoing imprisonment of political activists in Burma.

As long as political prisoners exist inside Burma, Burma will not be free. They represent the struggle for democracy, human rights, equality and freedom for the people of Burma. This makes the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners an integral part of Burma’s drive for national reconciliation.
