AAPP Discusses Prisons and Human Rights in the Upper House of Parliament( (12/2016)

On December 12, 2016, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) organized a discussion about Prisons and Human Rights in the Upper house of Parliament. Around 100 people attended the discussion, including the Vice President of the Lower House U Aye Thar Aung, Members of Parliament, Military Representatives and staff of the Democracy and Human Rights Committee.

U Aye Thar Aung gave the opening speech, and U Aung Myo Kyaw (AAPP) explained the purpose for the discussion. U Ko Ko Gyi (88 Generation Peace and Open Society) discussed issues in Prisons and Prisoner Rights. U Bo Kyi (AAPP Joint Secretary ) discussed Prisons Conditions in Burma and the potential of Prisons Reform. Mr, Andrew MacGregor (OHCHR) discussed international human rights  relevant  to prisons. Finally, Chairman of the Democracy and Human Rights Committee, Dr Htay Kyawe, gave the closing speech and thanked all speakers and participants of the event.
