⁨Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,183) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,519) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,580) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,910) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to July 16, 2026, the junta killed (20) people in total from the education sector across the country, including teachers and students. The aforementioned figure includes (10) students under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among those people, Tanintharyi Region and Magway Region recorded the highest number of fatalities, with (7) people killed in each region.Among the total number, (18) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest number of deaths. During the stated period, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (10) people from the education sector, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

On July 14, at approximately 1:00 p.m., junta forces conducted an aerial bombing on a Basic Education Post Primary School in Kan Lay Kone Village, Natmauk Township, Magway Region. The bomb shrapnel instantly killed Phyo Wai Oo, a Grade 7 student. Due to this attack, numerous students ‌ also sustained severe injuries.
