The majority of people in Burma do not trust the military’s claims that it will foster democracy and peace. This is a junta that arbitrarily arrested those who wore roses to celebrate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was elected by the people and officially recognized as State Counsellor by the United Nations, yet remains under arbitrary detention. Even the vendors selling those roses have been arrested. However, for their own interests, major neighbouring countries and certain ASEAN member states have been lobbying at the United Nations to accept the military junta’s promises. They turn a blind eye to the daily airstrikes and killings being perpetrated by the junta against the people of Burma. As they are committing international crimes, the right place for the junta is the International Criminal Court.
