⁨Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,095) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,191) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,324) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,876) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to June 17, 2026, (62) people in total; (34) women and (28) men, were killed by the junta in Rakhine State, including (9) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, (51) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death. During the stated period in that region, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (29) civilians, as a result of the junta’s artillery attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

On April 1, the military junta carried out an aerial bombing near the former Infantry Battalion No. 55 base in Thandwe Township, Rakhine State. Four internally displaced persons from Tu Myaung Village in Kyauktaw Township had fled to the area seeking safety, including two young girls. As a result of the strike, they were all killed instantly from bomb shrapnel.
