Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,044) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
A total of (30,986) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,223) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,874) remain to be verified.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, from January 1 to May 14, 2026, (43) people in total age 65 and above; (29) women and (14) men, were killed by the junta across the country. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, Sagaing Region records the highest number of deaths, totaling (11), followed by (9) people in Bago Region. Moreover, among the (43) deceased, (27) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, recording the highest cause of death, followed by (11) people who were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes.
On May 12, at approximately 4:00 p.m., junta forces troops stationed at Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, opened fire with heavy weaponry onto villages. A shell exploded in Shan Htu Village, killing an 80-year-old man named Than Mya, who died from gunshot wounds.
