Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

 

Date – 5 February 2026

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,751) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (30,406) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,793) are currently in detention, (11,523) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to February 5, 2026, a total of (23) people; (12) women and (11) men, were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes across the country, including (2) children under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among the deaths, (6) individuals were killed in Sagaing Region, recording the highest number of fatalities. During the stated period, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (11) civilians, as a result of junta attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

On February 3, Myo Thar Police Station, under the control of junta forces, fired heavy weapons in the southern area of Gyo (San Pya) Village, Ngazun Township, Mandalay Region, without any prior clashes occurring. The shells struck and exploded on a house in the village, killing 14-year-old Zun Zun Chit, after she was hit by the shrapnel.
