Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 28  October 2024

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,893) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

Since the coup, a total of (27,584) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (21,041) are currently in detention, (9,480) of whom are serving sentences.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to monitoring conducted by AAPP’s Documentation and Research Department, the junta has increasingly committed human rights violations. Over the past week, they launched ground assaults and airstrikes in various states and regions, resulting in numerous civilian casualties and a rise in the number of civilians forced to flee their homes. Likewise, ongoing clashes in Rakhine and Chin States have led many locals to flee, with some trapped in conflict zones where the junta has restricted their movement.

Additionally, the junta has deliberately targeted buildings that are considered non-military targets. On October 25, junta forces conducted an aerial bombing in Hsaw Bwe De Village, Hpapun Township, Kayin State, using fighter aircraft to destroy six buildings, including a Christian church and a nursery school.
