Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup
Date – 3 September 2024
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,599) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
Since the coup, a total of (27,304) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (20,833) are currently in detention, (9,371) of whom are serving sentences.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to August 31, 2024, a total of (224) people; (32) women and (192) men, were killed by junta’s gunfire across the country, including (1) person from the education sector and (4) people from the religious sector. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the (224) fatalities, Sagaing Region recorded the highest number of deaths with (75) victims.
On August 22, Zarchi Oo, a CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) teacher who was pregnant, from Nwe Khway Village, Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, was on her way to a clinic for an appointment in Chaung-U Town. When she was near the eastern side of the Myoma Market in Chaung-U Town, junta forces emerged from Chaung-U Police Station, ordered her to kneel, and shot her in the back of the head at close range. Her eye and ear were blown out as a result, and she succumbed to her injuries while being transported to Chaung-U Hospital.
