Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,262) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (1,800) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.

Since the coup, a total of (26,851) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (20,586) are currently in detention, (9,184) of whom are serving sentences. 

There are a total of (124) post-coup death row prisoners as of 11 June 2024. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (167) people who have been sentenced to death. (6,265) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by the AAPP, from June 1 to 11, 2024, (15) women and (19) men; (34) people in total were killed by the junta across the country, with Rakhine State recording the highest number of deaths at (22) people in total; (11) women and (11) men. The identities of those who have been verified. Among (22) fatalities, the highest number of deaths was caused by the junta’s airstrikes killing (17) people, and (5) people were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes.

On June 9, at approximately 11 a.m., Company-5 of the Border Guard Force subservient to the junta, opened fire with heavy weaponry into Har Bi Village in Maungdaw Township, Rakhine State. The resulting artillery explosion, on a house in the village, instantly killed five family members in the house, including two children who were under 18 years old, from artillery shrapnel.
