Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (5,143) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (1,800) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.
Since the coup, a total of (26,728) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (20,482) are currently in detention, (9,003) of whom are serving sentences.
There are a total of (123) post-coup death row prisoners as of 24 May 2024. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (166) people who have been sentenced to death. (6,246) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, during the period spanning from May 1 to 24, 2024, (15) women and (43) men; (58) people in total, were killed by the junta in Sagaing Region and there are (4) children who were under the age of 18 and (3) people who were over 60. The identities of whom have been verified. Among (58) deaths, (34) people were killed by the junta’s gunfire, recording the highest number of fatalities.
Moreover, during the stated period, (7) men were arrested and are still detained by the junta and (4) women and (9) men; (13) people in total, have been given prison sentences under specious charges by courts subservient to the junta and are still detained in prisons, with (1) person who was under the age of 18, in Sagaing Region. Among (13) sentences, most of them are sentenced under different sections of the Counter-Terrorism Law and there are (4) people who have been sentenced to 10 years or over, imprisonment.
