Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (4,526) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (1,000) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.

Since the coup, a total of (26,113) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (20,113) are currently in detention, (8,780) of whom are serving sentences.

There are a total of (121) post-coup death row prisoners as of 15 February 2024. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (164) people who have been sentenced to death. (6,000) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by the AAPP, from January 1 to February 15, 2024, (12) women and (57) men; (69) people in total, were killed after being detained by the junta across the country, with (5) who were 60 years old and over 60. Among (69) deceased, there are (13) people from Rakhine State.

On January 31, at approximately 2 p.m., two personnel from the LIB-378 based in Mrauk-U Town, Rakhine State, shot and killed seven people in the custody of the battalion. The victims, charged under Section 505 of the Penal Code, were identified as Kyaw Zan Wai (aka Phoe La Pyae or Yin Soet), Myat Thu Tun (aka Phoe Thiha), Kyaw Thein Hlaing, Kyaw Win Hlaing, Ko Ko Nyunt, Win Naing, and Pyae Sone Win. Their bodies were discovered in a bomb shelter near Mrauk-U Town Hospital.
