Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (570) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the Junta since the 2021 coup up until April 2022.  

As of May 23, 2022, (1858) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (7) fallen heroes today. These (7) fallen heroes from Khin-U Township and Ye-U Township in Sagaing Region and Mandalay Region were killed on previous days and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.              

As of May 23, 2022, a total of (10736) people are currently under detention. (1077) people have been sentenced in person, of them 72 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1979 are evading arrest warrants. 120 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 41 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 113 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.     

On May 19, five IDPs were shot to death by a military convoy firing artillery where they were taking refuge in Tar Tai Village. They are Win Ko, Kyaw Naing, Naing Linn Maung, Pyay and Tin Linn from Pauk Tar Village, from Sagaing Region’s Ye-U Township.  

On May 20, Kyaw Nyi Zin, 3rd year MB Student at the University of Medicine of Mandalay, was shot to death in the head by the junta while in a car on Mandalay-Monywa Road. He was involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and did not attend University anymore.

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
