  U Min Ko Naing AAPP organized a lecture at Seikkyi Kanaungto High School on November 17, 2016. The topic of the lecture – that saw the participation of Min Ko Naing, Wunna New and Sandar Min – was the protection and the prevention of human rights abuses against children. Around 2000 people – including township administrators, parliament representatives, officials, police lieutenants, headmistress, teachers and students – attended the lecture. PRESIDENTIAL AMNESTY: April 17, 2016, 83 Prisoners Pardoned

On April 17, 2016 the President announced a pardon of 83 prisoners under 401. (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. AAPP is in the process of verifying this list. Included in the list is Myo Thu Htut, who AAPP has documented as being released on April 8. Also on the list are Tin San, Tin Ngwe, and Myint Htay, all of whom have been documented by AAPP as being released in January. President U Htin Kyaw has announced the release of 83 political prisoners under presidential order on April 17, 2016 (Burmese New Year). AAPP can confirm 66 of the 83, and is in the process of further confirmation. AAPP will publish the remaining released list as soon as possible.

AAPP’s political prisoners list includes individuals that fall under the definition of a political prisoner that was developed during the joint workshop between AAPP and the Former Political Prisoners Society (FPPS) in August 2014. AAPP holds records of 121 political prisoners (including political activists, land rights activists and farmers) currently incarcerated in Burma’s jails, and a further 414 political activists awaiting trial.
