AAPP Discusses Prisons and Human Rights in the Upper House of Parliament( (12/2016)

On December 12, 2016, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) organized a discussion about Prisons and Human Rights in the Upper house of Parliament. Around 100 people attended the discussion, including the Vice President of the Lower House U Aye Thar Aung, Members of Parliament, Military Representatives and staff of the Democracy and Human Rights Committee. On November 27, 2016, Ko Tate Naing and Ko Zaw Moe attended a discussion organised by Equality Myanmar and the Centre for Civil and Political Rights (CCPR). The discussion focused on the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the benefits the government will see if they sign the ICCPR.   U Min Ko Naing AAPP organized a lecture at Seikkyi Kanaungto High School on November 17, 2016. PRESIDENTIAL AMNESTY: April 17, 2016, 83 Prisoners Pardoned

On April 17, 2016 the President announced a pardon of 83 prisoners under 401. (1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. AAPP is in the process of verifying this list. Included in the list is Myo Thu Htut, who AAPP has documented as being released on April 8. Also on the list are Tin San, Tin Ngwe, and Myint Htay, all of whom have been documented by AAPP as being released in January.
