Summary of the current situation There are at least 1,572 political prisoners believed to be behind bars in Burma. There is an ongoing secondary verification process to confirm the location of these individuals. So far, AAPP can confirm the prisons 918 political prisoners are being held in and is in the process of verifying more. Summary of the current situation AAPP can confirm 1,638 political prisoners have been arrested and are believed to still be in prison. There is an ongoing verification process to confirm as much information surrounding the political prisoner as possible, such as prison terms, sentencing history, and current whereabouts. Most importantly, AAPP is verifying whether a political prisoner is still in prison, has been released, or has been sent to a forced labor camp or to the front line, for example. Summary of the current situation In October, at least 240 political prisoners were released among a general prisoner release that freed 6,359 total prisoners. AAPP is continuing to receive reports on those released in October and is in the process of confirming. Due to this, the number may vary slightly.
